最近半年，考得比较多的两个奇葩口语话题便是这栽花，种树了。如果只是问我们栽没栽过，种没种过倒也还好，可偏偏他们还问我们都知道些什么花，什么树。说汉语自然是没问题的，可是英文的梅兰竹菊、杨柳松柏都咋说啊？

梅兰竹菊不会的话，玫瑰大家总是知道的，rose嘛。百合呢，我本以为大家也都知道，后来才发现，原来大家居然不知那个从小就很熟悉的女生英文名字lily原来竟是百合的意思。至于其他花，接下来跟大家好好说一说。

1. 梅花：plum blossom， 白梅是white plum blossom，红梅就是red plum blossom.

2. 兰花：orchid，蝴蝶兰是butterfly orchid.

3. 竹子：bamboo.

4. 菊花：chrysanthemum，这个单词的拼写虽然丧尽天良，发音也很拗口，但是大家若能记下来，考试的时候用上，想必会让考官眼前一亮。

I know a few such as roses, lilies and sunflowers. Among them, sunflowers are my favourite because of the bright colour, which makes me feel positive whenever I see them. I also like to eat sunflower seeds.

Of course. There are many flowers that have special meanings in China. For example, plum blossom. It’s a kind of flower that blossoms in winter, which is rare. It means brave and noble. Besides. Peony symbolizes prosperity, happy life and good luck. It’s a very popular kind of flower in my country.

3. Have you ever planted any flowers?

No, I haven’t. I have no patience in taking care of flowers. That’s why I never keep flowers in my home. However, I have seen my parents growing flowers in the yard. It’s actually quite interesting. Maybe I will try it in the future.

4. Have you sent flowers to anyone?

Sure, I have sent flowers to many people including my mum and some of my friends. I usually buy them flowers on some special occasions such as Mother’s Day or birthdays. Most girls I know have a preference for flowers.

5. What kind of trees do you usually plant in China?

We grow a number of trees including pine trees, willow trees, maple trees and so on. These trees are very popular in northern China and could be seen on streets and parks. In southern China, however, palm trees are very common.

6. How about in your hometown?

In my hometown, pine trees are definitely the most popular ones and also my favourite. Just imagine in winter when everything is covered with white snow, the evergreen pine trees make the scene even more stunning.

7. Have you ever planted trees?

Yes, I planted trees only once in my life as far as I remember. I was in primary school and my school teachers took the students to plant trees in a place that I don’t remember where it was exactly. We had a great time though.

8. Do you like planting trees?

It’s hard to say since I have very limited experience and knowledge about planting trees. Despite of this, I would say that I’m willing to learn and plant more trees in the future. Maybe I’ll find it interesting.
