Whether or not someone achieves their aims is mostly a question of luck. To what extent do you agree or disagree?(2015-2020

Accomplishing one’s objectives in life is based on a variety of factors including skill, relationships, education, experience and fortune, to name a few. However, it will be argued that although luck plays a minor role in achieving one’s goals, it is not the main contributor towards success.
With regards to academic feats in a merit-based system, obtaining higher scores on examinations and assignments has little to do with luck. Instead, acquiring excellent grades is a result of being able to satisfy the requirements of a particular task through determination and industriousness. In terms of career advancement, luck plays a minimal role in the majority of situations when an employee receives a promotion as it ought to be based on hard work and perseverance. Whether it be financial or life success, in most societies, one’s intelligence and abilities are the determinant factors towards accumulating wealth and achieving happiness.
Nevertheless, there are certain situations where being fortunate can lead to someone achieving their objectives, albeit these occurrences are extremely rare. In the first case, the children of wealthy families are lucky to be born into such circumstances and they are able to enjoy the fruits of their ancestors’ labour without even lifting a finger. Furthermore, people’s aims may depend on the misfortune of other individuals. If two candidates are being considered for a job position or internship and one of them drops out of their own volition, the winning candidate can be seen as being lucky.
All in all, in an instance or two, luck may be the main contributing factor for someone to achieve their goals. Nevertheless, one’s success in life is primarily dictated by their diligence, merit and experience.(279 words)
