The line comes from Sam Smith’s song “I’m not the only one”. I heard this song the first time a few years ago when he published his new album. When I heard the first line, I felt so touched because of his sad voice.It reminded me of my previous failed relationships.

“You and me we made a vow

For better or for worse

I can’t believe you let me down

But the proof is in the way it hurts”

It became my single circle for a few days. I buried myself in the sad emotion and didn’t want to come out of it. I guess many people have similar experience,to be betrayed, to be broken up, to have to leave an awful relationship and return to single. It’s the painful reality that we have to face. The last thing we could do is to pretend nothing happened.

Actually, I don’t have the exact same experience as what is singing in the song. I don’t know why it touches me so much. Maybe because I have never been in a marriage and I am quite pessimistic about marriage. I always believe that people would cheat, that men would cheat and it’s in their blood to cheat. “You and me we made a vow”, but I know that I am not the only one no matter how hard you try to hide. That’s horrible, isn’t it? I could totally understand why so many people choose not to be married. It’s better to stay single than to bemarried and then to be cheated.

Of course, a lot of songs are like this, telling people how ridiculous love could be. Inspite of this, I still look forward to love and romance. I don’t expect to be with someone forever any more. As long as two peopletruly love each other in their relationship, it would be enough. It’s more important to love ourselves than to love anyone else.
